Position Summary

Join a driven and high performing Engineering team supporting the Hilton Architecture, Design and Construction and Development department facilitating the delivery of the Hilton growth plans, through the development and delivery of excellent hotels across the region.

As a highly skilled and driven Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the Senior Director of Engineering Support to develop, manage and implement Hilton ESG targets, sustainable engineering solutions, Engineering excellence across all MEP disciplines and fire life safety standards for all Brands in relation to the EMEA estate. You will provide advice and support to the Hilton project management team, external design teams, and owners on new developments, Property improvement Plans, refurbishments, and adaptive reuse projects.

This role will consist but not limited to assisting the Senior Director of Engineering Support with:

1. Development and implementation of the engineering and fire life safety standards for all Hilton Family of Brands for EMEA, including agreeing any
   - specific standards with the respective Brand Managers.
2. Managing the preparation of any
   - specific Design and Construction standards and continuing to deliver
   - quality Hotels.
3. Maintenance of current and
   -
   - date copies of all Design and Construction Standards in relation to engineering and fire life safety for all Brands.
4. Review of building engineering services drawings with respect to construction brand standards for multiple brands and across multiple projects and Countries.
5. Inspiring and directing our vision for ESG.
6. Liaising with the company’s Area Operations Engineering team to review the performance of new hotels once these become operational.
7. Developing a very good knowledge of the company’s engineering construction design guidelines.
8. Ensuring these technical specifications are kept updated and reflect the latest technology and brand standard requirements.
9. Knowledge across Brand standards and reviewing local codes and communicating the differences of such codes and their implications to the Senior Director.
10. Developing strategies and directions for engineering processes, procedures, and reporting.
11. Executing strategic plans and supporting communications of key messages internally and externally.
12. Managing the
    - functional links between AD&C and other departments.
13. Supporting EMEA Engineering Directors on Project designs, construction visits, and testing and commissioning witnessing of systems.
14. Conducting Project designs, construction visits, and testing and commissioning witnessing of systems on Regional projects assigned in Region.

- discipline in MEP.

What will I be doing?

Planning Activities

1. Research Local Codes and help to identify business opportunities for Hilton to support Development pipeline.
2. Manage objectives for the department and assigned projects.
3. Travel and site inspections and team meetings.
4. Arrange knowledge CPDs for the wider Engineering team.
5. Establish priorities and support the wider Engineering team members ensuring optimum allocation of resources to support projects.
6. Work with key stakeholders and departments structuring activities and resources so overall objectives are met.
7. Communicate management plans and project activities and ESG goals.
8. Evaluate and streamline business processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
9. Manage
   - functional links to other Technical Services (Architecture and Construction) departments.
10. Adhere to measurements of engineering performance standards to ensure overall effectiveness.
11. Develop plans to implement
    - term goals for ESG and AD&C department.

Directing Activities

1. Implement and manage departmental processes and procedures to ensure strategies and directives are carried out effectively.
2. Oversee the development and administration of the agreed engineering standards.
3. Communicate important information to team members.
4. Influence department members to achieve department objectives.
5. Execute organisational directives and encourage achievement of goals through motivation, communication, and leadership.
6. Manage third parties, identify vendors, and monitor cost and quality of service.
7. Leverage effective partnerships with third parties and internal constituents.
8. Advise management on progress and key performance issues.
9. Conduct detailed design reviews.
10. Report on reviews.
11. Visit projects and conduct site inspections.
12. Witness commissioning and undertake checks for signing off on engineering systems.
13. Report writing, Project Overviews, and Final Project Sustainability reporting.

Controlling Activities

1. Oversee proper controls and systems to ensure compliance with the agreed engineering standards.
2. Ensure established performance standards are met for department or project.
3. Assess actual performance to ensure success and take corrective actions.
4. Ensure business plan is followed and achieved providing feedback as necessary.
5. Enforce policies and procedures to improve overall operations and effectiveness.
6. Operate within prescribed budget parameters.

Supportive functions

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following support functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.

1. MEP Design knowledge and practice with project management involving witnessing and commissioning on systems.
2. Sustainability knowledge in design.
3. Good understanding of regulations within relevant country and infrastructure challenges across the region.
4. Fluency in English is essential with preferably Spanish or Portuguese as an additional language. French language skills also highly advantageous due to support of projects in French-speaking regions of Africa.
5. Experience working in North Africa would be preferential.
6. Ability to analyse departmental financial data.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust and confidence in order to motivate and influence others.
8. Demonstrates the highest standards of ethical behaviour and absolute discretion with sensitive information.

Required qualifications

• University degree in mechanical and electrical engineering or similar
- related discipline or experience in lieu.

• Recognised professional qualification in engineering or similar
- related discipline.

• Significant previous work experience in related Advanced hotel development and construction related experience is mandatory ideally within an international hotel group.

Preferred qualifications

• Advanced degree preferred.

• Substantial hospitality industry experience preferred in similar roles.

• In-depth knowledge of hotel and general leisure engineering systems and design.

• Supervisory experience would be advantageous.

• Project Management experience would be advantageous.

• Proficiency with Word, Power
Point, Excel, Autocad.

• A very good understanding of fire, life, and safety systems, preferably experience in applying US NFPA, and main European standards and good understanding on SANS.

• An understanding or working knowledge of European regulations and standards.

• MEP Design background.

• On-site practical experience including testing and commissioning.
