We are looking for a
- based Senior Environment Advisor to join our HSE team at Yarwun.
In this role you will partner with our operations and stakeholders to champion environmental performance. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Environmental Advisor who strives for excellence and enjoys working on dynamic portfolios of work.

Reporting to the Superintendent Environment and working in a collaborative team of environmental professionals within the Yarwun Health, Safety, Environment and Process Safety team, you will be:
- Interfacing with
- site personnel to promote environmental goals and solve complex environmental issues including performing inspections to assess compliance risks. - Preparing and submitting compliance reports and data required to comply with federal and state legal obligations including our license to operate.
- Managing and improving environmental outcomes, for example: surface water quality, stormwater management, monitoring, waste management, groundwater quality, emissions to air, incident reporting and hydrocarbon/contamination management.
- Delivering and participating in audits (internal & external) and reviewing environmental incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements, community obligations, and corporate policies.
- Providing environmental advice in the interpretation of legislation, acts and regulations.
- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects to deliver business efficiencies and goals.
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- A Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental, Engineering or related discipline with knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to environmental aspects & impacts, risk management, State and Federal Legislation and environmental management systems.
- Experience with Federal and State (Queensland) Environment regulatory frameworks.
- 5 – 10 years of relevant industry (large scale smelting, processing or chemical manufacturing) or mining experience.
- Demonstrated experience in executing work in water (surface and ground), land (flora and fauna), sediment and erosion control aspects.
- Resilience and a dynamic approach to problem solving.
- Willingness to get hands on with problem solving and improvement and the ability to mentor members of the team.
- Working with site operations teams to ensure compliance with permits and to develop practical strategies for mitigating environmental risks.
- Excellent communication and partnering skills with the ability to work independently.

Where you’ll be working
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km
- west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
