Offer Description

A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 (one) Research Grant (RG) under the framework of the project Yscript, “Yeast cell factory for m
RNA bioproduction”, Grant Agreement 101047214 of Department of Chemistry /CICECO, under the following conditions:

1. Scientific Area: Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering.

2. Financing Source: Horizon Europe Programme - 101047214

3. Admission Requirements:

1. Students enrolled in the doctorate in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related areas.
2. Masters in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related areas, and enrolled in courses that do not confer academic degree integrated in the educational project of the University of Aveiro.

The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in an integrated master's degree, master's or doctoral program or in a course that does not confer an academic degree.

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th.

4. Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no. 1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th.

5. Work plan: The work plan comprises the synthesis and characterization of ionic liquids and their application on the development of integrated strategies for the clarification, and stabilization of messenger RNA. Among others, the following techniques and protocols will be used: synthesis and characterization of ionic liquids, agarose gel electrophoresis, preparation of aqueous biphasic systems and characterization of the respective phase diagrams, and characterization of the purification parameters of m
RNA.

6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th.

7. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Aveiro Institute of Materials – CICECO / Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professor Mara Guadalupe Freire Martins.

8. Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 5 months, starting in May 2025,
- renewed.

10. Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: curriculum vitae assessment, with the respective value of 100%. Curriculum vitae assessment will be based on the following values: Master or Integrated Master grade (40%); Academic and scientific path (40%); Experience in the manipulation of RNA (20%). If the jury deems indispensable, interviews will be carried out to the best three (3) candidates.

11. Composition of the Selection Jury: Chair: Doctor Mara Guadalupe Freire Martins. Permanent members: Doctor Ana Paula Mora Tavares and Doctor Augusto Quaresma Henriques Pedro. Alternate members: Doctor Márcia Carvalho Neves and Doctor Ana Francisca Osório de Almeida Coelho e Silva.

12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications: The call is open from 20/02/2025 to 06/03/2025. Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, declaration of honor, and other documents deemed relevant.

13. Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications.

14. Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 01/06/2025 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
