A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2025-16) on the project Vol
Wood - Volatile profile characterization of
- based panels leading to new production strategies using forest and agricultural surpluses, with the reference PTDC/CTM-PAM/1348/2021, supported by national funds by FCT/MECI, is available at REQUIMTE.

Main research field: Wood Engineering, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Furniture Technology and Design, or related fields.

Admission requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Wood Engineering, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Furniture Technology and Design, or a related scientific field.
2. Enrollment in a master’s program in relevant scientific areas and/or attending a
   - degree course taught by a higher education institution in collaboration with an R&D unit.
3. Experience or training in areas related to the work plan is considered a preferential condition.
4. In case the BSc degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th.

Working plan: The selected candidate will carry out experimental work in line with the objectives of the research project associated with this scholarship. The scholarship holder will be responsible for:

1. Preparation of wood particles or other lignocellulosic raw materials;
2. Production of particleboards with
   - forestry residues;
3. Evaluation of the
   - mechanical performance and formaldehyde emissions of the produced panels.

Occasionally, the selected candidate may need to travel to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto to conduct experimental tests related to the analysis of volatile compounds in the produced panels.

Work Place: The work will be carried out at the WBPTech facilities of ESTGV/IPV, under the scientific supervision of Professor Dr. Luísa Maria Hora de Carvalho and Dr. Rui Miguel Ramos, with occasional trips to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry – Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto – Qua
Qua/LAQV-REQUIMTE.

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, starting on 01 May of 2025.

Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €1. 040, 98 according to the stipend values established by FCT, I. P. in Portugal. Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

Selection criteria:

• Academic background (40 %);
• Research experience in the field of wood composite development (30%);
• Relevant experience in Wood Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Analytical Chemistry, with proficiency in techniques essential to the proposed work plan (20%);
• Indexed publications in areas related to the work to be developed (10 %).

Interview: In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the final score is obtained by the following assessment: 70% curricular evaluation and 30% interview.

The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
