Medical Scientific Liaison - Ophthalmology
1. Position Purpose
The MSL shall act as a scientific expert between Bayer and the medical community through the dissemination and education of scientific data and material. The MSL establishes
- term scientific/strategic relationships with key, influential physicians/scientists/stakeholders and with related major medical associations and academic centers of excellence. These relationships will ensure that Thought Leaders (TLs) and organizations have access to relevant scientific information and that pertinent information is shared with the medical community. The MSL uses his/her experience and knowledge interacting with key external medical and pharmacy professionals through the process of education via

- one interaction; small group discussion and symposia lecture presentations including interactions associated with sponsored medical education programs and research protocols. The MSL facilitates TL involvement in national, regional and local educational forums including advisory boards, symposia and Continuing Medical Education (CMEs). The MSL also serves as an important partner to internal stakeholders within Bayer by communicating relevant information from TLs to key
- functional partners.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities of Position

- Responsible for driving medical strategy by translating the local medical plan into implementable TL engagement strategies with
- functional teams and identifying synergies with the interests of Bayer and the general medical community.

- Data Collection, Analysis and Interpretation
- Responsible for reviewing and interpreting interaction analytics related to TL engagement and taking appropriate actions.
- Keeping abreast with the latest scientific research on therapeutic areas and competitors.
- Developing strategic perspective and strong understanding of Bayer’s commercial and healthcare landscape to anticipate business and customer/stakeholder needs.
- Managing External Relationships
- Fostering strong partnerships across MSL territories and playing the role of ‘trusted advisor’ to reach
- win outcomes. - Identifying the right TLs to engage and maintaining a current list with

- date segmentations. - Generating TL insights on unmet medical needs and communicating them to
- functional teams. - Implementing TL engagement strategies by fostering TL relationships and disseminating customer/patient-centric insights and data.
- Supporting Market Access presentations of new information to hospital formularies.
- Fostering strong partnerships across MSL territories and playing the role of ‘trusted advisor’ to reach
- Internal Support
- Providing scientific contributions to development and implementation of Bayer-organized medical educational programs and gathering competitive intelligence.
- Creating medical materials for MSL internal communications as required.
- Facilitating evidence generation aligned with medical and brand strategy.
- Supporting clinical trial teams on subjects related to interventional clinical trials.
- Medical Queries
- Documenting and processing medical information queries in alignment with MI handling procedures.
Work Relations
Internal: Medical Advisors, Medical Information, Medical Affairs Studies, Site Management, Market Access, Sales and Marketing, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Governance, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance.
External: Thought Leaders, HCPs, Institutions, Foundations, Medical Societies, Payers, Agencies, Authorities, Formulary Committees, Hospital Pharmacists.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in medicine, natural sciences or pharmacology.
- Experience in a medical/pharmaceutical field, dealing with drug information, clinical research and development.
- Basic knowledge of therapeutic area products.
- Business acumen/knowledge gained through academic study or work experience in a pharma or equivalent organization is preferable.
- Experience in ophthalmology/retinal diseases is highly valued, but not mandatory.
- Track record of successfully dealing with internal and/or external stakeholders.
- Experience in leading workstreams/projects and organizing scientific engagement platforms.
- Experience with digital technology for communications and data analysis.
- Fluent in Portuguese and English - verbal and written.
