Job Title: Country Manager - Sao Pay

Position Overview
The Country Manager for Sao in São Tomé and Príncipe is responsible for overseeing the company’s business operations, ensuring the successful implementation of products, and driving growth strategies aligned with Sao’s mission to advance financial inclusion.
The role involves managing all
- level activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, achieving financial and operational targets, and fostering partnerships to expand Sao’s footprint in the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Identify market opportunities, risks, and trends to refine
- specific strategies. - Represent Sao in
- level meetings with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders.

- Business Operations Management
- Oversee the

- end operations of Sao products, including Sao Agents, Sao Send, Sao Wallet, and Sao POS. - Monitor the deployment and performance of Sao’s infrastructure and ensure high service availability.
- Ensure effective liquidity management for agents and maintain strong operational efficiency across the network.
- Oversee the
- Financial and Performance Management
- Develop and manage the country’s budget, ensuring proper allocation of resources for operations and marketing initiatives.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including user acquisition, agent network expansion, and transaction growth.
- Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and mitigate operational and regulatory risks.
- Maintain relationships with regulatory authorities to ensure smooth operations and adherence to local laws.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and manage the country operations team, including Operations Officer, Business Development Officer, Products Officer, and Reconciliation and Settlements Officer.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management to ensure a
- performing team. - Foster a collaborative and
- driven culture within the team.
- Market Development and Partnership Building
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with financial institutions, telecom operators, government entities, and NGOs.
- Drive agent and merchant acquisition campaigns to expand Sao’s reach across urban and rural areas.
- Promote Sao’s brand and value proposition to stakeholders,
- users, and agents through strategic marketing efforts.
- Product and Customer Experience
- Work closely with the Products Officer to ensure Sao’s products are tailored to the needs of the local market.
- Oversee customer support processes, ensuring timely resolution of issues and a positive user experience.
- Gather customer feedback to inform product enhancements and market strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field is preferred.
- Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in operations management, fintech, or financial services.
- Proven track record in managing
- scale agent networks or digital financial platforms. - Experience working in or with emerging markets, particularly in Africa, is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of digital payment systems, mobile money, and
- commerce platforms. - Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks related to financial services, AML/KYC, and data privacy.
